We offer a 30 day defective exchange on everything we sell, and on orders of $400.00 or more we will ship your defective exchange to you at no charge. Please take a few minutes to read this page and learn everything you need to know to import Marine Electronics from the
U.S.
Following are tips on how to make sure you can safely buy Marine Electronics in the United States and take advantage of the huge savings vs. buying in
Australia
. There are some pitfalls and it is our job to make sure you avoid them.
Currency: All prices on our website are in US Dollars. If you would like to calculate the approximate cost in Australian Dollars you can go to this website, www.xe.com, or contact your credit card company.
Brands, Warranty, and Service: Based on feedback from customers in Australia it appears that many service centers in Australia have decided to not honor the warranty on items purchased in the
United States
. These service centers whether independent or manufacturer owned are only obligated to service units that are purchased in
Australia
. They do this to try and protect their Australian dealers which is understandable.
Most manufacturers will allow you to return your unit to the
US
for warranty service but we just learned that Lowrance and Eagle will not. Effectively if you purchase either of these brands you do so with the knowledge that you have no warranty.
Because Northstar is owned by the same company that owns Lowrance and Eagle it is very possible you may have no warranty. As far as we know Furuno, Raymarine, Garmin, and other manufacturers will allow you to return the unit to the
US
for service.
We apologize for the lack of clarity in regard to warranty but what a manufacturer here in the US may tell us and what actually happens in
Australia
are two different things. We suggest that you must consider the possibility that you may not be able to obtain warranty service on any item you purchase in the
US
and that must factor into your buying decision.
Taxes and duties: You can import Marine Electronics from the
US
to Australia Tax and Duty free as long as the value is $1000.00 AUD or less including shipping charges. Anything over $1000.00 AUD, you can go to the Australian Customs website to determine what if any tax or duty might be owed and how to pay it. http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=5549. Here is a great currency exchange site where you can convert USD to AUD. http://www.xe.com/
If you ever have any questions about how much tax or duty might be owed, feel free to contact us at info@FishOnMarine.netand we will be more than happy to calculate it for you.
Shipping – We have used just about every way there is to ship to
Australia
and by far the best, fastest, and least expensive way to ship is USPS Express Mail International. A 5lb parcel will cost approximately $50.00 to $70.00 AUD to ship from the US to
Australia
. USPS Express Mail International takes 3 to 5 business days to arrive, has tracking, and can be insured. I just got an email the other day from an Australian customer that got their order in 3 days! You may find items on the site that say, Qualifies for Free Shipping. The Free Shipping option is only for customers in the Lower 48 United States.
Larger items like Radar are too big and too heavy to ship via USPS. We can only ship these items via UPS or FedEx. The average radar unit will cost approximately $400 USD to ship to
Australia
. Even with the higher shipping charges, many of my Australian customers tell me it is still much less expensive to purchase radar units in the
US
. The website is not set up to calculate UPS or FedEx rates so if you are interested in a radar unit email us for current shipping rates. info@fishonmarine.com.
Multiple items or larger items may require multiple shipments or the use of different shippers. In this case it is possible the actual shipping charges may exceed what the website calculates. If this is the case you will be notified immediately. You will have the option of cancelling the sale or paying the additional shipping charges. If you are considering a larger order with multiple items please contact us for the exact shipping rates. info@fishonmarine.com.
There is an additional 7 days handling time on Lowrance, Eagle, Northstar, and Humminbird orders. This is necessary to comply with their overseas shipping policies.
Rebates and Giveaways - All rebates offered on this site are for US and Canadian customers only. Unfortunately the Manufacturers do not extend these rebates to Australian Customers.
Communicate with your Dealer – Make sure to communicate thoroughly with your dealer before you buy anything. If your dealer does not communicate well before the sale you can imagine how they would communicate if you have a problem after the sale. Make sure you are clear about what you are buying, how much the price is in USD. You can then calculate the approximate cost in AUD. Make sure it is in stock and make sure they notify you when they ship it. Make sure the shipment has tracking and is insured. Determine if there is a return policy and the details of that policy. It is very important to make sure of all of the details because returns can be very costly if the dealer allows them at all.
Confirm with the dealer that the item you are purchasing is Brand New and sealed in the manufacturers packaging.
Things to consider if you decide to return an item for a refund – It is going to cost you. You will have to pay shipping back to the dealer and you will most likely lose on the refund as well. The reason you can lose money on the refund is the currency exchange rates at the time of the refund could mean you get a refund less than what you paid. I have seen instances where a customer received $40.00 AUD less than they paid on an $800 AUD sale. Your dealer has no control over this at all. It is all automatically done by the credit card company both at the time of sale and at the time of a refund. It is very important that you get the right product because you do not want to return it.
How to find a reputable dealer? – This one is simple. Go to www.FishOnMarine.net! Or, surf the web and look for a dealer that has a wide selection of top name brand products that has good contact information, an address, telephone number, and email, hours of operation, etc. Look for a professional looking website that has a lot of information about the products they sell, Be sure to email the dealer and ask as many questions as possible. If they respond promptly and professionally, they are probably a reputable dealer.
Ebay -While there are reputable Marine Electronics dealers on Ebay, they are becoming fewer and fewer. We sold on Ebay for years and it was a great marketplace. We no longer do business on Ebay because Ebay has become clogged with part timers trying to make their fortunes on Ebay and they don’t have a clue what they are doing. These part timers have little or no experience with the products they sell. Reputable dealers on Ebay have gotten to the point where they offer very little in the way of service because Ebay fees are so high, there is very little profit left after a sale so they have to sacrifice service to do business on Ebay. You will usually pay more on Ebay than you will from a dealer with their own website. A lot of people like their rating system but it doesn’t mean a whole lot because most sellers won’t leave positive feedback for the buyer until the buyer has left positive feedback for them, so you don’t necessarily get a real good picture of the service the dealer really offers.
